Winter Warm-up For Lobb

Thursday 7th June

Caine Lobb heads to Feidling and the Manfeild Autocourse this weekend for the first of four rounds of the 2007 Formula Ford Winter Series.

Fresh from winning the South Island Formula Ford Championship, the Whangarei driver is hopeful of achieving another title before embarking on his first full season in the Formula Ford National Championship starting at Pukekohe in November.

The Winter Series is popular with drivers who want to keep their skills sharp over the off season and new drivers for preparation before the start of a rookie season. Lobb is looking at the four rounds as a warm-up to a serious challenge for the national championship after competing in it only part-time over the 2006-7 season. Showing much potential in his first appearance in a Tier One Ford event he surprised all those involved by winning the national round at Ruapuna last November.

For this weekend Lobb will be using a leased car while the team's own Hydraulink Ford remains unfinished after being rebuilt after a huge crash at Taupo last January during the A1GP meeting. The bright yellow Ford is expected to be completed in time for round two of the Winter Series in July and is expected to be very competitive after being upgraded.

Caine Lobb is very much looking forward to competing in the series and putting in some extra time behind the wheel before the strongly contested summer season begins and the racing gets really serious. At the annual Motorsport Awards held last month it was announced he along with a small contingent of other promising drivers had been selected to attend the Elite Motorsport Academy at Otago University. Lobb has been recognised as an outstanding driving talent and worthy recipient of the intensive training program.
